Do Cats Hold Grudges? Misbehaving Cat
Is your cat holding a grudge against you? seeking revenge? mad at you? If you have cats you have probably experienced times when your cat has gone to the washroom in an inappropriate location. Or do something to make you question if they are mad at you.
It can feel like our cat is trying to get revenge, payback, or holding a grudge.
However, we must be careful when we give human emotions to our cats. Instead, try to understand our cats as a cat! Cats are motivated by more than emotions, they are motivated by survival. So they are not retaliating against you, instead your cat is acting out of fear.
When your cat misbehaves, your cat is trying to communicate with you. They are trying to let you know that something is wrong and they are scared.
Understanding your cat and their motivations can help you redirect unwanted behaviours, then find ways to help your cat feel safe.
So if you are struggling with a behavior with your cat, the first thing to do is to consider why your cat is doing it - view it from the perspective of a cat motivated by survival and instincts
get to the root cause and then decide from there what changes to make in your cats environment or how you can meet the needs of your cat.
