Winter Care for Dogs & Cats - Ayurveda Inspired
Now that the Winter season has arrived, the weather is also colder. During Winter, the cold air is dry, which can cause restlessness or digestive issues. Using techniques from Ayurveda, we can support our animals' well-being so that they remain healthy and balanced.
Ayurveda is a natural healing system based on the five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. One of its foundational principles is seasonal eating.
Here are some winter foods you can safely feed your dogs to promote healing and balance:
Carrots and root vegetables: Rich in nutrients and grounding
Dates: (Fed sparingly) source of energy
Almond oil: Reduces inflammation and soothes from the inside out
Turmeric Paste or Golden Paste
Bone Broth
I feed both bone broth and turmeric pastes to my cats and dogs.
Turmeric paste is a mixture of turmeric powder, coconut oil, black pepper, and water. There are so many benefits of Turmeric paste, which include:
Anti-inflammatory:Â Helps with joint pain and arthritis.
Digestive Support:Â Aids digestion and gut health.
Immune Boost:Â Turmeric has antioxidant properties.
Skin and Coat Health:Â Helps with itching and inflammation.
When it comes to feeding Turmeric paste, there are some things to consider:
Feed is small amounts and avoid overuse, since excess turmeric can cause stomach upset.
Introduce slowly to asses tolerance
Always mix in with regular meals
